Spelman College, has converted the second oldest
building located within the historic quadrangle into
a one-stop, student services center. Based upon the
College’s 2000 campus plan, Packard will become
the administrative hub for Student Services, including
the Office of Enrollment Management, the Registrar’s
Office, Financial Aid, the Cashier and Comptoller’s
Departments. Built in 1893, the three-story, 22,600
gsf building has wood columns and beams and masonry
load bearing walls. Packard was used continuously as
a dormitory until 2002.
Clement & Wynn coordinated the selection of the
Architect and engineering consultants, the Construction
Manager/General Contractor, and supervised the programming
and design phases of the project. Abatement and demolition
began during the summer of 2002 . Since Packard Hall
is apart of the College’s historic district, Clement
& Wynn coordinated design reviews with the Georgia
State Historic Preservation Office, with the Department
of the Interiors National Parks Service, and administered
the public procurement process to comply with federal
funding guidelines.
